A CHURCH leader has warned its members to strictly follow the new public health safety rules and cancel all planned mass gatherings.
Evangelical Lutheran Church of PNG head bishop Rev Dr Jack Urame said the new restrictions announced this week by National Pandemic Response Controller David Manning were designed to protect lives.
“As citizens, we will comply with the directives to prevent the spread of the virus and minimise the chances of contracting the virus,” Rev Urame said.
“We are responsible for each other and we have a Christian duty to save the lives of our neighbours.
“Therefore we will adhere to the new directives.”
The church had been holding conferences for women, youth and pastors in various locations around the country.
He urged church members to behave in a responsible manner and “not to hold meetings or engage in activities that will attract more than 20 people”.
“We have advised them to cancel their planned district conferences and meetings during the period of the restriction,” he said.
He said the churches would inform citizens of the rules and restrictions and how they could contribute to the fight against the Covid-19.
“We will inform church congregations so that they adhere to the number of people attending church service on Sundays.”
