THE Evangelical Lutheran church is carrying out disability awareness in Lae suburbs to give voice and empower persons living with disabilities (PWDs), in partnership with stakeholders.
The awareness programme with stakeholder partners started on Nov 29 at the parishes of Bethel and Church of Hope in Taraka and continued to other suburbs leading up to the World Disability Day on Dec 3.
Morobe Disabled Agency president Benedict Hipom said government agencies and non-government agencies had partnered with the church’s programme to advocate for a voice for those living with disabilities through funding from the Australian government’s aid assistance (AusAid).
“We are emphasising what Disability Day is and its importance, rights of PWDs and encouraging them to form groups to attract support in order to be empowered,” he said.
