Church council slams appointments

THE Enga Council of Churches is not happy with the appointment of teachers to church-run schools in the province.
Council chairman and head bishop of Gutnius Lutheran Church Rev David Piso told The National that teachers recommended by the church education board were not considered by the appointment committee, adding that this was in breach of the Education Act and Teachers’ Service Act and a court order in place.
Piso said the two Acts allowed the church and PNG Teachers’ Association representatives to be on the appointment committee and the committee should consider the list of teachers submitted by the church education boards.
He said that appointment of the teachers to church-run schools should be done on merits as recommended by the respective church education boards.
