Church donates to centre for disabled, pregnant mothers

PREGNANT mothers at the Waniati Maternal Waiting Home in Eastern Highlands have received gifts from a Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) community service group last Tuesday.
Director of Waniati Maternal Waiting Home, Victor Timothy, said that the group donated goods to help support the disabled and pregnant mothers that had been accommodated and cared for at the waiting home.
“The SDA group brought goods such as food, fruits, firewood and store goods such as napkins, pads, soap and omo and other necessities that the Waiting Home needed,” he said.
Timothy said that the donation was seen as a relief for the organisation.
“Operating the home has always been a challenge,” he said.
“But the goods would help contribute to its operation.”
Timothy said the goods would support the home to take care of and accommodate the disabled people and pregnant mothers.
He said that the goods like firewood would help save costs.
“Firewood costs around K200 and it is costly,” he said.
“Every day we spend money on wood to cook food for the patients and the support shown to us is greatly appreciated.”
Timothy also thanked the SDA team for the support.
He added that despite no recognition from the Government, the community took the initiative to help support the running of the organisation.
Waniati Maternal Waiting Home is a non-government organisation that accommodates and takes care of disabled and unfortunate pregnant mothers.
