THE Catholic Church Health Services (CCHS) received a third batch of Coronavirus (Covid-19) medical equipment from the Apostolic Nuncio to Papua New Guinea Archbishop Fermín Rodríguez.
Packages containing respirators, face masks, battery-operated oximetres, and other important items were handed over by Archbishop Rodriguez on behalf of Pope Francis during a brief blessing ceremony at the CCHS national office in Boroko, Port Moresby.
He also presented a K10,000 cheque to the office.
“I have the honour and pleasure as the representative of His Holiness Pope Francis, on his behalf, to convey to the people of Papua New Guinea a gift consisting of medical equipment which the Holy Father wishes to assist in the face of the pandemic,” Archbishop Rodríguez said.
“This gesture highlights the continuous solicitude of Pope Francis for PNG and expresses his concern for the people and for the Church in Oceania.”
Archbishop Rodriguez was appointed as the Apostolic Nuncio to PNG on March 31.
This was Archbishop Rodríguez’s first official public engagement after he had presented his letter of credentials to Governor-General Sir Bob Dadae last month.
He will be reporting directly to the Vatican on diplomatic and church matters of the country.
