THE Morobe provincial government’s initiative to assist churches has been applauded by a head of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Boana.

Church secretary Poshe Okona said yesterday the Christian Church Partnership Programme, (CCPP) the first of its kind in Morobe, was the way forward in developing church programmes and activities in the province.

Okona said the provincial government’s allocation of a tenth of its internal revenue budget to church activities was a good way of ensuring more people participated to hear the word of God through teachings of different Christian denominations in Morobe.

The partnership programme this year received a funding of K5.6 million and a division was created by the provincial administration to distribute the money.

Okona said special funding for churches was a move that should be hailed by all churches, which had very little support from the government in the past.

“By creating the CCPP Ministry, churches now have the opportunity to develop the work of God in communities that were once struggling,” he said.
