I REFER to the letter Guise Kola entitled ‘ ELC-PNG needs to clean up operation” in The National (January 19) and in particular the reference to assistance of Morobe Provincial Government to bail out Mainland Holdings about the same time Luship was beginning to experience problems.

The MPG was dependent on Luship for basic service delivery, particularly in the Huon peninsular region.

The region is true blue Lutheran country, commencing about 2004 Luship was having problems and therefore basic services were being affected.

Around the same time another Morobeen icon, Mainland Holdings, ask MPG to save it from bankruptcy forced on by the management.

The MPG fought tooth and nails to save the company while in that fight MPG realised Luship required help too.

At that time MPG engaged the services of some of the best so it was felt that their services be extended to assist Luship at the expense of MPG.

Incidentally, Mainland Holding paid back all the money spent by MPG on its behalf in this matter)

So it’s on record that Governor Wenge, accompanied by Provincial Administrator Manasupe Zurenuoc, went to Lutheran headquarters atAmpo to meet the then head bishop, church secretary and other officials to offer assistance.

Those who attended said the bishop accepted the offer and as a preliminary matter a list of questions was given by the Wenge team to help them decide on what assistance to provide.

The answers were due back that afternoon but the church never responded and subsequent follow up calls were unanswered and the church officials simple went tight lipped.

Look at the success of Mainland Holding today. Luship could have been a different story today
