Church leader wants police to punish sorcery accusers

A CHURCH leader has called on police to deal with those who accused two women of sorcery, and held them captives for days recently.
Evangelical Lutheran Church of PNG head bishop, Rev Dr Jack Urame said such people should face the law.
“One of them was a wife of a pastor, and as Christians, we uphold the value of human dignity and strongly condemn this primitive act,” Rev Urame said.
“The accusers must face the law and be punished.
“The victims are not animals but humans. They are God’s creation and deserve respect, love, care and protection. We are living in a civilised society and by now we should be behaving sensibly with respect for life and love for our neighbours.
“But people are still embracing their old beliefs and using sorcery to release their frustrations or other emotions.
“Therefore I appeal for a collaborative response to suppress sorcery belief and minimise accusations.”
Rev Urame said everyone should change their way of thinking.
“Education and science are key to transforming the belief system of our people,” he said.

  • If the Law is not working, than next level, the Lord wants to shift is HIS Grace, by the Grace God has given the Keys of the KINGDOM to the Church, Not to Prime Minister, Lawyer, or anyone else, Mathew 16: 18-19 I Give you the Keys of the Kingdom, Authority & Power, when will the Church use that keys to destroy witchcraft in the church/nation today, Church has to open their eyes to solve problems in this Nation, no one else…..

    • Thanks Joe, you are right. That key in Matthew 16:18-19 was given to Apostle Peter on the day of Pentecost in Acts chapter 2. See verses 38 & 39. That key is God’s Holy Spirit. Sorcery problem requires a spiritual solution. Not a legal solution as it is not a law and order problem. People needs to be filled with God’s Holy Spirit through the waters of Baptism. See John 3:3-5. Then God will change everything in that person. That is the only road to salvation. I used to be the vessel of the devil before but after I repented, got baptised by full immersion and received God’s Holy Spirit, what a wonderful experience it has been for me. My past has been forgiven, now I have a reason to live and my destination is Heaven. Amen.

  • Both of the above comments are valid. Rev Dr Jack Urame states that “everyone should change their way of thinking” on this matter of sorcery. He doesn’t realize that “everyone” includes himself. The practice of sorcery is crippling PNG nationwide. Those who have lived in PNG for 20 years know that if a child or a young person dies, everyone assumes it’s sorcery. “Don’t show me this biopsy indicating that it was cancer that killed this 25 year old person. We know it was sorcery. Or (a new wrinkle) it was sorcery that brought on the cancer.” Papua New Guinea needs to be set free from the animistic mindset.
