CATHOLIC religious communities in Port Moresby have sewn 1,000 pieces of face masks for the church’s frontline health workers in the country.
In response to urgent needs for the Covid-19 response by clinical staff, the Catholic church health services national office approached the Servants of St Joseph Congregation and the Holy Spirit Sisters to help with the production of masks which they responded with enthusiasm.
National Catholic health secretary Sr Jadwiga Faliszek said the masks were produced in a very short time.
“With the limited stock on PPEs (personal protection equipment) in the country and the urgency of mobilising protective gears for our health personnel, we appreciate this timely assistance,” Faliszek said.
She said the masks would be distributed to the provinces over the next couple of days, with priority being the border provinces.
She said distribution would increase to more provinces throughout the country when more masks were available.
