THE United Nations says Papua New Guineans have huge opportunities available to tap into business as the rate at which the country is growing.

Resident coordinator Roy Trivedy said that during his presentation at the Kumul GameChangers conference in Port Moresby yesterday.

He said a UNDP commissioned report, Seeding Social Enterprises in Papua New Guinea, expounded findings on agriculture, clean energy, education, financial inclusion, health care, water and sanitation.

“The analysis shows that there is enormous market potential for social enterprises in each of the six sectors,” Trivedy said

“Improvement in ICT infrastructure and then increasing penetration of mobile money are two factors that are likely to encourage impact entrepreneurship.

“However, considerable challenges exist and sector experts have believe that for those sectors to sustain and grow they will need support in various forms.

“Some of the work require incubator platforms, improving access to finance encouraging seed and crowd funding facilities and improving governance.”

He added that if the challenges in these areas were successfully addressed through initiatives like the Kumul GameChanges programme, the future of social enterprise in PNG would be be promising.

Trivedy said the Government was doing well to support with bold plans such as Vision 2050 and the Medium Term Development Goals.
