PORT Moresby stopped a courageous Besta United 3-1, in their National Soccer League encounter at the Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium on Saturday.

The development team courageously bowed out from the semi-professional league with their heads held high.

The match — controlled by Goroka-based referee Roger Adams — saw four yellow cards given out, one to Besta’s  Emmanuel Yawi, with the other three to Pom’s Arniel Passam, Aaron Sexton and Roland Bala, while United’s Joshua Talau was given a red card for dangerous play.

Port Moresby scored their first goal in the 24th minute through Hillary Harry-Jenkins after good pace of footwork, to sail the ball past Besta goalkeeper Joshua Tailabu for a 1-0 lead.

The game seesawed until the 34th minute through some good coordination in the midfield for Aaron Sexton to net the second goal for Port Moresby to extend their lead to 2-0, which they defended up to the halftime break.

Port Moresby added another goal to expand the lead to 3-0, but Besta regrouped and Brandon Ben went through to score their only goal in the 61st minute.
