THE southern leg of the Women’s National Soccer League heads into its sixth round tomorrow at the PNG Football Stadium.
With four more weeks remaining before the end of the regular round, Genesis remains on top of the standings with 13 points while Hekari United trail behind with 11 points following their draw last week.
Saturday’s opening match (11am) will see Port Moresby City take on National Capital District — both teams sit in the third and fourth place respectively.
NCD are an improving side and have become more competitive as the season has gone on.
The side has so far won two of their matches, lost two and drawn one.
City, under women’s national coach Frederica Sakette, are in the running for a finals berth and will want to consolidate that with a win.
The second match of the triple header will see Hekari United take on Amoana whom they thrashed 13-1 in the first round.
Coached Eric Komeng, Hekari has scored 29 goals in the last five matches which is the highest record for the Southern Conference.
Hekari skipper and PNG striker Marie Kaipu, who is the leading golden boot contender, is expected to score more goals before the season is done.
With Komeng’s emphasis on constant improvement especially on offence Amoana goalkeeper Kila Vavine is sure to get a working over.
Leaders Genesis take on Port Moresby Academy in the main match tomorrow and are favoured to add another three points to competition tally following their draw with Hekari last week.
Genesis’ assistant coach Joe Willie said that last week’s clash with Hekari had shown them their potential and capabilities which they will be putting that to use in the fixture.
