Efforts to get a comment from National Capital District Metropolitan Superintendent Benjamin Turi last night were unsuccessful.
However, a police officer at the scene who asked not to be identified said according to their initial investigation, the man had used an object to smash the glass wall facing Waigani Drive.
He said the man allegedly smashed equipment inside and started a fire which officers managed to put out.
The police officer said the man was yelling when they dragged him out of the bank saying he was “doing it for PNG”.
