THE National Capital District command in efforts to enhance policing in the city will be implementing next week a new radio system and GPS in vehicles to ensure accountability and transparency.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) NCD/Central command Anthony Wagambie Jr said the command would be implementing the new system to ensure all vehicles were accounted for.
“We want to ensure all issues within the command are dealt with, the command is a big command not by size but by the population and the important offices we have in NCD,” he said.
“This new technological system we want to put in place, we want to ensure that police is able to respond to a crime that occurs.
“For example, once the radio system and GPS is put in, we can track the police vehicle, so if a crime occurs within NCD, say in Gordon, the vehicle nearest to the scene will be contacted by the operations command and the vehicle attends to the scene.
“That way, police vehicles from Boroko and Waigani do not attend to the scene and are moving away from their locations unless it is necessary they are needed.
“This way, we maintain police visibility and crime is brought down.”
