CITY fathers have reminded residents of Port Moresby that public health safety rules related to the Covid-19 national isolation period remain in force.
City manager Bernard Kipit said they would continue to enforce the rules although the isolation period ended on Monday, to coincide with the reopening of schools after a three-week break.
“The behaviour and cooperation of the public will help to end the pandemic,” Kipit said.
“The medical team will help to cure for those who get infected.
“That is why we must continue our efforts and the public must continue to cooperate.
“We cannot slow down the operations until we get advice from the health officials.”
Port Moresby has so far recorded 4,123 cases and 61 deaths.
The national total is 10,197 positive cases with a 91 deaths.
He warned that community transmission was surging.
“We are not going to allow people to continue with activities which cause social problems and disturb peace and harmony in the community,” he said.
National Road Transport officers will continue to set up checkpoints to ensure passengers in buses, taxis and vehicles wear masks.
NCD Governor Powes Parkop said there were some positive news from doctors.
“We have reduced the community transmission from 50 per cent to 30 per cent,” he said.
“The goal is to get below 5 per cent.”
