National Capital District residents have the opportunity to participate in the country’s law-making process following the start of the final leg of the nationwide consultation on the review of the election laws in the city on Friday.
The consultation in the form of open forums to be held at the main markets in the city’s three electorates will continue this week.
The teams comprising commissioners and staff of the Constitutional and Law Reform Commission conducted open forums on Friday at Tabari Place, Boroko and Gerehu Market. On Saturday, they visited Sabama Market from 10am to 12pm. They also met members of the Motu Koita Assembly and Central provincial administration management team to get separate views on the review.
Following amendments to the initial arrangement, open forums will also be held at Koki Market and Saraga Market today, with the final one scheduled for Waigani Market tomorrow. Timing for both days is at 3 pm to 4pm.
“I am calling on everyone in the city to join the rest of the country,” said CLRC chairman Robert Atiyafa. “Come forward and give us your honest and constructive views and suggestions on the how best the election itself, its laws and systems should be improved for the good of the nation.”
