THE Lae Biscuit Company-sponsored Toti Cup soccer tournament ended with City beating PS United 5-4 in a penalty shootout in the final on Monday.
The Toti Cup attracted 49 teams with East Sepik and Madang fielding sides in the six-day tournament.
Lae, Huon Gulf, Markham, Nawaeb, Finschhafen and Kabwum also fielded teams in the second edition of the tournament, which is aimed at identifying new talents for Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League (NSL) champions Lae City.
Once in City’s system, the new talents will undergo an elite programme to get them up to speed with the club’s culture, philosophies and style of play so that they are ready for the NSL.
Lae Biscuit Company believes that the Toti Cup not only serves the franchise but provides a great opportunity for other clubs to identify new players at no cost.
The top-four teams that made the finals walked away with cash prizes and trophies.
Defending champions City United pocketed K5,000, runner-up PS United settled for K2,000, Markham Marafri bagged K1,500 and Sobou netted K1,000.
City United’s Joshua Oscar was named as the tournament’s top scorer with six goals.
PS United’s Ronald Warisan (best goalkeeper), City’s Jeremy Yasasa (defender) and Philip Steven (player of the tournament), Sobou’s Walbo Kumuna (midfielder) and East Sepik’s Mud Skippers (fair play) also received awards.
