THE Gerehu Stage 6 and 7 Sports Association heads into its final round of games this weekend before they select the top eight teams in the men’s touch and the women’s volleyball for the finals.

President Peter Opa said they wanted to thank National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop and Port Moresby North-West MP and Health Minister Michael  Malabag for each pledging K20,000 to the competition.  He said since the establishment of the association last year, it has helped reduce law and order problems in the community as the youths were kept busy participating in sports.

Opa said a disciplinary committee was set up to run the association.

“On Friday, the disciplinary committee will go around and monitor the players.

“If they see a player drinking, they will inform their respective clubs not to use the player the next day during competition.

“If teams fail to adhere to the advice given and the offending player takes the field, the player will be suspended for two  weeks and  two points will be deducted from the team concerned,” Opa said. He said all games should end this weekend, with the finals on September 6. Parkop and Malabag will be guests of honour.
