THE Civil Registry Office has registered 25,000 incorporated land groups (ILG) out of the 46,000 applications it received from customary landowners.

ILG Civil Registry co-ordinator Cordie Watupoli told The National yesterday that there was more to be done but her staff needed more office equipment such as computers and printers to carry out the task.

She said they currently had only three computers, two were donated by the National Research Institute under the National Land Development Programme (NLDP).

She said they needed about 15 to 20 computers and printers plus a much bigger office space to work in.

They have requested for additional computers through the NLDP which sits under the NRI and are still waiting.

Watupoli could not specify how many ILGs there were by regions or provinces but said that the ILG concept had lured a lot of interest from customary landowners.

She said many landowners were coming forward to register their land for safe-keeping and benefits to be passed onto their children.
