A CLAN in Abau, Central, has been granted its incorporated land group (ILG) certificate by the Department of Lands and Physical Planning.
The Keleone Kelegai (KK ILG) clan of Velerupu tribal group from Gavuone village, Abau, fulfilled all the necessary requirements and was granted the ILG certificate on Dec 17.
According to a statement, the KK ILG was not new to the National Government’s ILG concept.
It had applied and was granted its ILG certificate on Feb 22, 2006, in the previous ILG system.
To conform to the current ILG reform requirements, the clan followed through the entire process that eventually saw them being granted the ILG certificate on Oct 18, 2020.
The clan had discussed the way forward for their new ILG status in terms of utilising their land and resources with the assistance of other like-minded clans or groups and all the ward members of surrounding villages.
