Clash claims lives, injuries

A FIGHT in Talasea, West New Britain, on Friday has resulted in the death of two men.
Provincial police commander Supt Jim Namora said the victims were from the Tabaia and Kolomagere clans of Dira village.
He said the suspects used factorymade firearms during the fight.
Namora said several other victims from the same village were nursing bullet wounds while two victims were hospitalised and in critical condition.
He said the fight continued till Saturday morning.
“All clans are now defending their own territories and he situation is still tense,” Namora said.
Talasea LLG president Victor Narere and Namora visited the area on Sunday and spoke with the disputing clans to establish peace.
“The disputing and rival clans still cannot move around to access basic services due to the situation which transpired from a sorcery allegation that had never been resolved amicably,” Namora said.
Narere and Namora urged the clans to resolve the issue immediately.
“Normalcy must return as soon as possible,” Namora said.
