STUDENTS from a primary school in Lae have resumed normal classes after a month of closure.
The Gantom Primary School was allowed to receive its 1000-plus students after health risk issues were addressed by the school board and management.
The school was closed last month because of deteriorating toilet facilities and lack of water supply to ablution blocks.
According to the Lae urban local government acting director of health, Jonathan Ipang, the school could resume yesterday.
Ipang said the school had fully complied with the closure notice because they had provided an adequate number of toilets and restored water supply.
A parent and team leader of a working committee, Alu Pagau, said the committee was established purposely to construct toilets and restore water supply.
“We did landscape and made sure the toilets were properly built with vents, unlike the past toilets,” he said.
