THE rundown Kagamuga Urban Clinic in Western Highlands managed by the Susu Mamas, a non-governmental organisation, is now open after major renovations.
The improvements of the clinic was funded by the European Union (EU) through United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (Unicef).
Representatives from EU, Unicef, Care International, provincial health authority, Mt Hagen City Authority and others visited the renovated facility yesterday.
Susu Mamas provincial manager Teresita Waki said the clinic had been in a poor state and they were privileged to be one of the nine selected health facility in the province under the Klinpela Kominiti Project (KKP) in line with Papua New Guinea’s national Wash (water, sanitation and hygiene) programme.
Waki said the clinic did not have water supply and water had to be fetched from nearby water sources to be used in the clinic.
She said the restored water supply cost K20,103 while rehabilitation work on the staff and patients toilet and showers was K2,105, electrical repairs cost K5,566 and internal and external painting cost K35,454.
She said the improvements would provide better healthcare for people in the area.
