Clinics need infection control teams, says nurse

A SEPARATE team for infection control is needed in all clinic facilities to sanitise them once Coronavirus (Covid-19) positive cases are discovered, an official says.
Gordon clinical nurse Muwete Gatsia said infection control was important, if a patient was infected with the Covid-19 and died in a clinic, a team needed to already be there to spray and clean out the area.
“In our case, we nurses take the responsibility to clean out which puts unnecessary pressure on us.
“We have clinical activities and are busy with patients, we don’t have time to do this,” Gatsia said.
She said there needed to be specially trained personnel to sanitise areas in hospitals and clinics.
She said it was sad to see that the Government was not looking after their welfare and health of the nurses.
She said nurses faced many risks as they were on the front line.
She said nurses were already overworked and carrying out health services in trying conditions and the Covid-19 pandemic as another challenge.
She said the state needed to look at their welfare in order for them to be able to work well and provide the best possible care for the sick and injured.
