CLINICS in Lae that have run out of anti-malarial drugs have been urged to notify the provincial health office so they can be supplied when new stocks arrive, an official says.
Morobe Health adviser Micah Yawing said that yesterday after malaria patients turned up at some clinics in the city to seek treatment but were told that there were no anti-malarial drugs.
The patients were diagnosed and referred to private clinics or pharmacies to purchase the medicines.
The Omili, Butibam and Milfordhaven clinics in the city had run out of Artemether and Mala 1 supplies used for treating malaria.
The same scenario is faced by other health centres and aid posts in the vast province.
Yawing said the provincial health office was aware of the situation and had asked the Health Department to assist with medicines.
“We have run out of anti-malarial drugs,” he said.
“We have requested the NDoH through the area medical store and we are waiting for the supplies.
“As soon as we get the supplies we will distribute them to all the affected clinics accordingly.
“It will take some time though because of the government procurement process.
“I urge those affected clinics to be patient.”
