A COACH in the National Capital District Governor’s Cup wants more emphasis on the values of the week-long rugby league tournament with teams uniting during the festive season.
Border Storm coach and Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League referee Paul Wani told The National that it was an opportunity for players and teams to network while competing.
“As a referee, I’ve been advising my players and other teams on the rules,” he said.
“From a coaching point of view, I tell them how to play the game.
“It’s a tournament but teams can look at areas like line speed, defence and how to make the right decisions when they are under pressure.
“We’ve have a lot of talented players who are waiting to be identified and further developed.
“We have players from different backgrounds mixing with each other and the crop of talents to pick from is big.”
He said he uses his team as a place to drive positivity.
