Coach warns Dabaris players: No position is guaranteed

CENTRAL Dabaris coach Bagelo Solien has warned that no position is guaranteed and that players will have to earn their spots in the side for the Digicel Cup next season.
He said all the players in last season’s roster were on one-year deals.
“It’s up to them to retain their position. They need to train hard to earn a spot,” he said.
“They must turn up for the hard yards like everybody else and maintain discipline to earn their spots.
“Every coach has different approaches or ways of doing things.
“Either way, it’s crucial that things are done right. A high level of discipline must be maintained at all times to ensure that players follow the right procedures.
“No-one will walk straight into the team without earning their sports. I don’t select players based on names but their performances.”
Solien attended the Hardware Haus Agarobe Cup Central Province Premier League preliminary final between Koiari Knights and Rigo at the Murray Barracks Oval in Port Moresby on Friday.
“We have a training squad in place with more than the required number of players. We will eventually cut down the squad to 30 players after some trials,” he said.
“It will then be cut further down to 25 before a 17-man squad is finalised. The Hardware Haus Agarobe Cup Central Province Premier Rugby League is feeder tournament to Central Dabaris.
“These players are pushing to make the squad one day. But they’ve got to be up to standard and perform according to what we want.”
