THE Lae Coffee Industry Corporation office is the coffee quality checkpoint which certifies coffee before export, says chief executive officer Charles Dambui.
He said the office was more than 40 years old with the structures deteriorating.
“With its run-down state, I would like to thank the Government for committing K5 million in 2015 and has made commitment to give additional funds to the total cost of K20 million for the construction of a new office complex,” he said.
Dambui said the construction would start as soon as half of the funds was made available.
Dambui said the tender process had been done and a bidder had inspected the building.
The new CIC building is expected to house the Naqia and Customs offices so that export processes are done efficiently and on time.
“This office is serving a lot of coffee farmers and we are also growing SMEs in the coffee industry sector which it will serve as a one-stop shop for potential local exporters who want to export overseas,”
he said.
