KOKOPO Business College in East New Britain was commended for engaging the provincial supply and tenders board to award the contract for its administration building worth K2.3 million.
Acting provincial administrator Wilson Matava praised the school administration and governing council for engaging the supply and tenders board for a project of such magnitude.
The college last Friday signed contract documents with a local contractor, Waira Limited, so work could begin on the project.
“The college has ensured that there is an independent and technical assessment that went through the provincial supply and tenders board and the appropriate contractor be awarded the project.
“There are institutions in the country that do not use the process of awarding contracts, which is an important part of procurement in our Government,” Matava said.
“We cannot progress if we do not adhere to and comply with processes of governance in our procurement system as a nation. This is important in terms of transparency and accountability.”
Matava said infrastructure improvement was important in improving academic and education services.
