AFTER more than 20 years being closed, the Arawa Technical College will be revived as the Bougainville Technical College.
It is in the Tinputz district of the Autonomous Region of Bougainville.
Project consultant Paul Ivape said the national education board had agreed to relocate the school to cater for the increasing number of Grades 10 and 12 school leavers.
Ivape said the college would cater for 200 to 500 students, 80% of whom would be from the region.
He said the Bougainville Technical College would replace the Tinputz Specialised Training School, which would be relocated to Kekesu, the former United Church mission area.
He said courses to be offered included building, electrical, business studies.
He said the school would have 30 teaching staff, 24 new staff houses and 13 new buildings constructed.
He said the school was scheduled to open in 2013 and would cost K17.5 million to re-establish.
Ivape said the groundbreaking ceremony for the school was scheduled to take place on Sept 20, where Prime Minister Peter O’Neill was expected to officiate.
