The people of Bougainville have started what could be a worrying trend in this land of the unexpected. Their overwhelming endorsement of independence from PNG may be followed by New Ireland, Enga and East New Britain, among others.

It’s Friday and there is no sign of rain in Port Moresby as the weatherman forecast early this week. Unpredictable indeed.

Northern Governor Garry Juffa admits he is yet to walk the full length of the famous Kokoda Track in his province, which thousands of tourists and locals have done. “I have never walked the trail. I have walked bits of it.” That’s okay.

Men wake up in the morning as good-looking as when they went to bed. Women somehow deteriorate during the night.
