Column 1

Past date
September 16, the target date for the reopening of the multi-billion kina Porgera mine, has come and gone. The nation, the economy, businesses and the people are still waiting. Anyone?
Out of sight
As expected, the heavy downpour on Sunday night in the capital city swept away all the rubbish in the drains out to sea. Let someone else worry about the rubbish. For us, it’s out of sight, out of mind.
Fixed at last
This bus stop near the 8Mile roundabout in Moresby North East, highlighted twice in this column recently when it was lying on its side minus the roof and seats, has finally been repaired after many moons. Someone quipped that it may be a sign that a general election may be approaching.
Silent ride
As soon as colleague got in, the taxi driver quickly switched the radio to a station playing gospel songs. Was the driver trying to relay a message? Colleague did not why nor did he bother to ask. He was so deep in thought.
Food for thought
Avoid posting your personal problems on social media (Facebook). Your personal problems require personal solutions, not social attention.
Top quote
“We all look forward to (the reopening of the Porgera mine) being finalised (soon) because it signals the commitment by the Government and Barrick towards getting Porgera re-commissioned which is so important to Enga and PNG as a whole.” – BSP chief executive officer Robin Fleming.
