Deferred budget
THE 2022 national budget lock-up scheduled for today has been deferred to a latter day. No word from Parliament why.
Power cuts
SOMETHING must have happened at PNG Power. The blackouts have somehow stopped, or at least slowed down. Thanks.
Jumping queue
COLLEAGUE was the target of the ire of those waiting in a line near an ATM machine at Vision City when he walked directly up to the ATM, not aware of the queue formed near where Xmas trees and decorations were. He swore he did not see the queue.
Covid-19 lockout
A COVID-19 lockout (not lockdown) is the exclusion of employees by their employer from their place of work until they get vaccinated, or tested negative.
Scary forecast
Up TO two-thirds of Papua New Guinea’s adult population may be still largely unprotected from Covid-19 in 2026 – based on projections in new research being published by the Lowy Institute. Frightening.
So slow
THE USA and other nations are into the “booster shot” stage now, while we are still around 3 per cent of the population being vaccinated. So far behind. So much vaccine-phobia.
Sextortion in Pacific
A RECENT study reveals that Tahiti has the highest rate of sextortion (92 per cent) in the South Pacific, followed by New Caledonia (76 per cent) and PNG (51 per cent). Examples of sextortion are government officials requesting sexual favors to obtain licenses or permits, teachers who trade good grades for sex with students, or employers demanding sexual favors for jobs. Sounds familiar?
Food for thought
WORRYING is like a rocking chair. It gives you something to do but gets you nowhere.
What they say
“RIGHT now there is no Government policy on compulsory vaccination, meaning it is optional. (But) companies have workplace health safety policy (which) is their prerogative (to promote) efficiency and productivity.” – Health Secretary Osborne Liko
