Which department
Cabinet should clarify which department – Finance or Implementation and Rural Development – should be disbursing the service improvement programme funds to the MPs. There seems to be some big disagreement over it.
Too many
No way PNG’s population is around 17 million – as claimed by an international organisation. National Statistician John Igitoi, for one, doubts we have that many people already in this land of a thousand tribes.
Action year
From a reader: One government department has called 2023 the year of action. What it may imply is that there had been “no action” in the department in past years. Just saying!
Family unity
Someone who posted this picture of New Ireland Province Governor Sir Julius Chan and Namatanai MP Walter Schnaubelt says “it is a rare sight in NIP politics” – seeing the uncle and nephew together after the Budget Assembly sitting this week.
Flooded highway
The highway along the eastern end of the Unagi Oval in Port Moresby gets flooded every time it rains. City Hall should clear the drains which obviously must be clogged.
Visit to dentist
A man asked the dentist how much it would cost to have a tooth pulled out. Dentist said K90. The man exclaimed: “What? K90 for a few minutes’ work?” Dentist said: “Well, it’s up to you. I can make it last longer by pulling it out very slowly!”
Thought for today
In life, do not be like a parrot which talks too much but cannot fly high. Be like the eagle instead, which is silent but has the power to touch the sky.
Best quote
“Government should impose a tax on sugar containing foods and drinks, at least as much as beer because sugar is at least as big a health risk as beer.” – Professor Glen Mola of the UPNG School of Medicine and Health Science.
