Column 1

No end in sight
PNG Power boss Obed Batia recently told a group of businessmen in Lae that there was “no end in sight” to the country’s power supply problems. That is the fact of the matter, so to speak. Woe is us.
Indian PM’s visit
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting the country soon for a India-Pacific Islands summit. Of course, his visit has nothing to do with the recent break-in at that country’s high commission in Port Moresby.
Truck on footpath
Surely the road transport authorities have a law which prohibits the parking of vehicles on footpaths. This one, again, is outside a company premises at 8-Mile last Friday, not only forcing people to walk onto the road but also damaging the concrete footpath.
Child care
Reminder to parents: Children did not ask to be here. So it is your responsibility to arrange your life to give them the best care. That’s the least they ask of you.

Cost of living
According to a media report, the skyrocketing cost of living crisis has seen the majority of Australians rethink their holiday plans this year, with almost half of the country vowing to ditch overseas travel altogether.

Top quote
“We have issues around liquidity in foreign exchange, structure of taxation and customs delays which are creating hindrances to investment. Businesses are sitting on cash because they don’t know what to do with it because there is no access to forex to invest in PNG.” – Economist Justin Smirk of Westpac Bank.
