Column 1

Budget day
The “small man” awaits with bated breath what the Government has in store for “him” next year, as there was nothing much to write home about in this year’s budget.
More judges
Hopefully we will see some expansion to the judiciary in terms of the number of judges when the 2024 national budget is announced. We need to clear the backlog of cases.
Public safety
Police need breathalyser machines on the roads especially at this time of the year to quickly identify, and get off the road, those driving under the influence – for public safety.
Xmas money
It is that time of the year when you see groups of people congregating outside government offices dealing with public funds in the hope of collecting “unpaid” royalty or lease “owed” them as Xmas draws near. Nothing new.
Office party
The end-of-year office parties are not to be missed, where the best moments of the past year are reminisced at great length, the year-long frustrations are unloaded, and dreams of fresh new starts next year are expressed.
Rugby seven
Promising performances by the PNG men’s and women’s teams at the Pacific Games, rattling defending champions Fiji. PNG must be doing something right.
Boring replays
Replays of the 2023 NRL games on a television channel are not only boring but irritating. And we are paying to watch the replays!
Two days
Always remember that the two most important days of your life are the day you were born and the day you found out why.
Food for thought
If money and material things make you believe you are better than others, you are the poorest person on earth.
Top quote
“The home is where life is lived and if it is not harmonious, the community will not be.”- National Court judge Justice Nicholas Miviri while sentencing a wife to 20 years in jail for killing her husband.
