Silence please
Two people had their mobile phones confiscated when they rang and interrupted court proceedings at the Mt Hagen district court yesterday. Magistrate Lydia Karre had been warning people entering the court room to turn off their phones or face being locked up in the court cell.
Power cut
Everyone is being affected by the continual power cuts in Port Moresby – even Parliament where the nation’s law-makers meet. The session last Friday afternoon had to be abruptly adjourned to Tuesday this week when the lights went off. There was no sign of a generator – if the House has one.
Thin bodies
We boast of the abundance of land and wealth yet cannot feed our children well. An United Nations agency says there is an “alarmingly high” number of young ones suffering from malnutrition because of “poor diet” and an ineffective food system. Not only here but all over the world. It’s not funny.

Erramatti Mangayamma, 75, from India, has become the world’s oldest mother when she gave birth to two healthy baby girls last month. With her is her husband of 57 years, Raja Rao, 82. She used the in-vitro fertilisation method. Just a month ago, a 74-year-old Indian woman also gave birth to twins.
