A FEMALE driver in Port Moresby has noted down observations which are worth sharing and we hope someone from the relevant authorities is reading and take into consideration. Give refreshers to all drivers renewing their three year license on what an indicator is and when to use it. Fine & jail the culprits who don’t use their indicators.

***

WARN those drivers who want to exit a roundabout from the inside lane without considering where they are in relation to other drivers and ensure all taxis in the city paint their license numbers on the inside and outside of the cab so that passengers can record it.

***

INCREASE the speed limit on certain sections of the freeway to 80kph to match the actual average speeds of cars. From the Courts roundabout to Kone, for example, make it illegal to drop below 60kph on the outside lane, below 40kph on the middle lane and the left lane can be anything less than 40kph for trucks and semi-trailers.

***

MAKE it illegal to leave a vehicle broken down in the middle of the road without hazard lights on or some sort of flare to warn other road users.

***

IT appears the Land Transport Division is not able to perform some of its functions because of lack of funds. No funds to pay new employees, no tow trucks to remove vehicles from roads … Wonder if their request for funding was captured in this year’s budget proposals.

***

AND that division gets more brickbats for failing to  ensure that PMVs operating the capital’s Bus 9 route complete their runs instead of stopping at the 4-Mile bus stop. Passengers are being forced to walk from the 4-Mile bus stop to the Boroko shopping centre because PMVs have stopped using the Boroko market bus stop.

                                        ***

AND they are still collecting K1 instead of the prescribed 80 toea adult fare. In fact, they charge K1 from Gerehu to all bus stops after Waigani. PMV operators have certainly become a law unto themselves in the nation’s capital.

WEWAK will also host the National Haus Krai on May 14 and 15. Two venues confirmed for the event are: East Sepik Council of Women,  Wewak Hill and Wewak District Council of Women, Yawasoro. On May 15, all will walk from their various locations and converge at the Dagua Chamber of Commerce to do the final walk to Viaq police station. If you have concerns about the escalating rate of violence in the country, please participate and air your opinions. Thank you Cynthia for your time.
