A CHALLENGE to those who want to engage in school fights. Stop fighting physically and do your battles on an intellectual level. Do something constructive and less violent. There’s nothing that kills your enemy more than your success. Thanks Serg.

IT is true students’ poor behaviour in schools is threatening the quality of teaching and learning. If nothing is done to control the situation, quality teaching and learning is at the risk of losing its real purpose.

primary schools in Yangoru-Saussia district, East Sepik, are working to create a safe and secure teaching and learning environment for all students and teachers in the district. Read how primary and community schools in the district recently got together and agreed on the “Primary schools behaviour management policy” in tomorrow’s Weekender.

GETTING the best health care is something we all want for our children and ourselves too. Every day in PNG, children and adults are dying from treatable and preventable illnesses such as pneumonia, malaria, tuberculosis and diarrhoea, among others.  Many factors contribute to these deaths, with one major factor being the lack of proper diagnosis and treatment.

THIS is where medical research comes in and this is what the PNG Institute of Medical Research (IMR) does. Just as humans change their lifestyles, so do micro-organisms. Often this affects the response of a virus, bacteria or parasite to drug treatment as it can become resistant to some drugs. We need to constantly monitor these diseases, the drugs that are used to treat them and the interventions used to control them to ensure we deliver the best health care possible.

OVER the last 45 years, IMR has been conducting medical research into health problems affecting the people of PNG with the goal of improving the overall health of all Papua New Guineans.

MAJOR shopping outlets, especially in Port Moresby, have a long way to go to achieve customer approval during peak shopping hours. Why close serving stations when you can see the queues are extending into the aisles? By now, the shop management should know the shopping trend and act to ensure a smooth operation for both their cashiers/packers and customers.

WAITING in queue to be served in one particular shop has been extended from five minutes to almost 15 minutes. Cashiers and packers should be rotated at least every four hours so they are not stressed come peak hours with the long queues. Then we can at least be served by a smiling attendant.
