WEEKS ago, a hole no bigger than the size of our palms appeared at the roundabout in front of Port Moresby’s Boroko Foodworld. It has since grow by about 50 times, causing traffic to slow down and

adding to the already bad traffic that the city is facing. Is the NCDC waiting for a lake to appear before they send someone to patch it up (again)?

WONDER how many public servants have been caught for driving a government plated vehicle without authority? Concerns have been raised within a particular government organisation on the use of a vehicle by a particular officer as his personal family car. Department of personal management secretary has issued a circular banning the excessive use of government vehicle; and yet this officer still has a 24-hour use of this government vehicle.

***

AND when the officer is away either on leave or duty travel, his wife (also an employee) is keeping the vehicle at their house and using it as a private

vehicle. However, fuel and maintenance is paid for by the government department. And yet the head of the department is currently conducting training regarding ethics and corruption. It seems there is no control here on who is supposed to enforce the instructions.

INTERESTING to note that ARINC has been

appointed to implement multiple airport systems at the Port Moresby International Airport, also known as the Jackson International Airport, in Papua New Guinea. ARINC’s airport IT solutions will be

deployed in both the international and domestic terminals as part of the airport’s aim to modernise the passenger processing system and enhance the

passenger experience. Hope that reduces the long queues.

AERONAUTICAL Radio, Incorporated (ARINC), established in 1929, is a major provider of transport communications and systems engineering

solutions for eight industries: aviation, airports, defence, government, healthcare, networks, security, and transportation. ARINC has installed computer data networks in police cars and railroad cars and also maintains the standards for line-replaceable units.

NAC is confident that with the deployment of ARINC solutions, it will be able to improve the passenger experience, streamline the passenger reconciliation processes and strengthen security at the airport. NAC says most importantly, it enables them to provide a consistent model for passenger processing for all airlines that operate at the Port Moresby airport. The Port Moresby International Airport is also planning to build a new international terminal to

handle growth in passenger traffic. The new terminal is expected to be completed in time for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) meeting that will be held in PNG in 2018.
