THE Police College Commandants Cup kicks off at Bomana on Saturday, with 36 teams each in A-Grade and B-Grade playing in round-rob matches across two pools.
Interim president Vitus Kanua said the offseason competition had not been consistent over the last five years.
Kanua said with a new management, they were anticipating a successful season with more teams and sponsors coming on board.
“Since inception in 2007, it had been run by the Bomana Police College until 2012 when we had a new management under the sponsorship of former Moresby North-East MP Labi Amaiu,” he said.
“We then had current North-East MP John Kaupa as our sponsor, with the competition being named after him. But we weren’t able to complete the 2016 and 2018 seasons due to management issues.
“We are over that now. We’re moving forward as we want this competition to be successful.
“There are many business houses willing to support. We will write to them after we appoint our board.”
