Commission calls on artists to register

THE National Cultural Commission is calling on artists in the country to visit their office and register so their work can be recognised.
Commission acting executive director Steven Kilanda said that they would recognise and support the artists who were registered under the commission.
“If other countries recognise our artists, value them, invite them and buy their products, then why not PNG?” he said.
“NCC will support the art industry.
“In the case where an artist is trying to fly out of the country upon invitation to sell his or her products or showcase their skills, we will give them our support.”
Kilanda pointed out that PNG had “very talented artists” and there were a lot of unemployed youths who were potential artists.
“We have to engage and make use of our existing and remaining talent,” he said.
“We have to train our unemployed youths and young artists who are coming up.”
Kilanda said NCC was talking with the NCD Commission to set up a place where artists can showcase and sell their products.
