Commission completes review of teachers’ structure levels

THE Teaching Service Commission (TSC) has reviewed its teachers’ structure levels at all schools, an official says.
TSC chairman Samson Wangihomie said the Education Department had reviewed all inspectors as well as moved them up a level.
“What we did at the schools was we lifted up the level structure,” he said.
“Primary schools used to be at level two (TSO2).
“The base level, as of 2023, will be TSO3.
“High and secondary schools will go up to TSO4 from TS03.
“Callan Services and the vocational centre teachers have gone from level two to four because those are specialists.
“They can communicate with students with special needs.”
Wangihomie said vocational centre teachers were skilled and they didn’t want to lose them to industries, so TSC took them from level two to four.
“National high schools from level four to five and the school principals’ level which was always static at nine, has now gone up to 10,” he said.
“Teachers colleges and primary teachers colleges and all these technical colleges have gone from five to six.
“But from here, they will be going to the department of higher education so we will have nothing to do with them.”
According to TSC operation’s Maini Mike Ugaia, the elevation of base level would also require additional qualification. “Like elementary school teachers now, they have a certificate,” Ugaia said.
“In the new elevation, they have to have a diploma, but if they resign and they want to come back, they have to have a diploma.
“Primary teachers with a diploma, they have to have a degree and it also goes up with all the other sectors.”
