Commission has obligation to back sports, says Kipit

CITY manager Bernard Kipit says the National Capital District Commission (NCDC) has an obligation to support well-structured sporting organisations.
Kipit made these remarks during a Papua New Guinea Volleyball Association Incorporated (PNGVAI) corporate dinner at the Dynasty Restaurant at Vision City in Port Moresby on Friday.
He said NCDC had chipped in K50,000 to support volleyball because it had a well-structured management.
“This is not a one-off as we are looking forward to continuing this support to develop the code and also see that awareness on violence against women and girls is encouraged at all levels in the community,” Kipit said.
“We have to advocate against these issues in the community to see that women and girls are equal players and not to be marginalised.
“This will see a pathway created for the future of volleyball at the international level.”
NCDC is also the franchise owner of Digicel Cup franchise Port Moresby Vipers.
PNGVAI president Kila Dick thanked Kipit, his management and NCD Governor Powes Parkop — who is also the patron of the association — for supporting the national women’s volleyball team ahead of their tour of Canberra.
“I also extend my gratitude to Pacific Corporate Security owner Jacob Kaupa, Bank South Pacific, Airways Motel, Oil Search Foundation, R n R, Brian Bell, Trophy Haus, Food World, TISA Sir Mekere Morauta and the PNG Sports Foundation for their support as well,” he said.
“We will fly the NCDC flag at any international tournament we compete in.”
Dick said the support would go a long way in helping the team make the 2023 Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands.
