THE Constitutional and Law Reform Commission (CLRC) needs K3 million to carry out its activities in the drafting of various legislations, including the Organic Law on provincial and local level government elections, an official says.
CLRC secretary Dr Mange Matui told The National the funding was needed to print and distribute relevant documents to districts as well as carry out awareness in the provinces.
Dr Matui said it was the second constitutional direction given to CLRC which is the Organic Law on the national and local level government elections.
“CLRC has already filed two reports which were submitted to the government,” he said.
“We are working with other key stakeholders, PNG Electoral Commission, Department of Provincial and Local Level Government Affairs and Department of Justice and Attorney-General to see what we can do to incorporate the major changes into the laws before the next election in 2022.
“There are ongoing discussions about the specific provisions we can incorporate into the laws,” he said.
Dr Matui said the funding would cover other related activities including printing of the documents and distributing them to the districts.
“Secondly, we have to carry out awareness to the provinces and the districts which we have yet to do.
“Thirdly, helping with the drafting of the amendments to those various legislations.”
