Commission signs deal for staff housing scheme

THE Constitutional and Law Reform Commission (CLRC) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a landowner group from National Capital District to start a staff housing scheme.
The MoU signing between CLRC secretary Dr Mange Matui and chairman of the Badu Incorporated Land Group of Kira Kira (Mahuru) Village Geno Baeau on Sept 25 was witnessed by staff, management and executives of the ILG.
“The MoU, although non-binding, basically sets out the expectations as to what we have to do and what the ILG has to do in order to make our dreams come true,” Dr Matui said.
The CLRC will work with the ILG to sort out the finer details and put in place formal arrangements in a win-win fashion for the staff and the ILG which has freehold title over the land at Meduna in Taurama.
As part of the scheme, CLRC aims to get a portion of it subleased by the ILG to the staff to build their homes.
Dr Matui said it was a challenge for the management and they would work with the ILG to ensure that titles were given to every staff member. He thanked Baeau, his family and clan for opening up their land and giving CLRC staff an opportunity of a lifetime.

  • This is not a clan this is a family group and the land belongs to the Tubumaga Laurina Clan of Pari Village. The Freeho;d title is NOT a Clear Title. and there is an application to register that land by the Tubumaga Laurina Clan of Pari Village. The registration of the land has passed 90 days and Tubumaga ILG is waiting for the Title. Law Reform Commission is a legal body so you have to check thoroughly before the MOU is signed.
