Commission to support ENB

THE PNG Electoral Commission (PNGEC) signed a memorandum of understanding with the East New Britain administration to support each other in the 2022 national general election.
This will now see the electoral commission channel funds to start the process of updating ward rolls, expected to start next month, as well as other necessary tasks, in preparation for the election.
The signing also enables the two parties to work together by sharing resources and costs.
During the signing in Kokopo on Thursday, provincial administrator Wilson Matava said there might be challenges with funding, but tasks could be achieved if resources and manpower was effectively mobilised.
Matava said the provincial administration had also submitted its list of appointed returning officers (RO) and the assistant ROs for the PNGEC to gazette.
The MoU was signed by the PNGEC acing commissioner Simon Sinai and Matava.
PNGEC officials gave an update of the new Baining electorate and local level government boundaries redistribution.
Sinai explained that the process by the PNG Electoral Boundaries Commission (PNGEBC) was not yet complete.
Sinai told the ENB administration officers that recommendation by the PNGEBC would require political will by the ENB national MPs to take it up at the national level.
