Commissioner should review applicants

Letters

POLICE Commissioner Gari Baki suspended the 2015-2016 police recruit intake amid serious allegations of corrupt recruitment practices.
The allegations had some merits in some instances but not all intakes should be penalised.
The corrupt actions of a few recruits with a few corrupt recruit teams should not victimise the majority of genuine applicants.
The commissioner should now use it’s internal mechanisms to investigate and review the merits of individual applicants and allow for intake to the Bomana Police College.
The 2016 recruitment exercise is alleged to be worst and so the investigations and review should target this exercise.
The commissioner is also reminded the intakes for the 2015 recruitment exercise have been unnecessarily victimised by the 2016 exercise, therefore priority intake should be from the 2015 intake.
This recruitment was done by genuine recruitment teams.
The Police Department  has wasted thousands of kina and likewise, the country need more young policemen and women, therefore, recruits need to be trained and deployed for the ageing police force as well limited police against the growing population.
The commissioner is commended for the decision he has made to hold and recruitment.
And now he should allow genuine recruits to proceed for training.

Victimised recruit.
