Commission’s loss in court upsetting

Letters

IT was a sad day for Papua New Guinea when the Ombudsman Commission lost its case to stop Parliament from increasing the nomination fee for candidates.
Could it have been the way the
application was done that the Supreme Court interpreted the way it did?
Was there a better way to file the application other than asking the court to prevent Parliament from debating, deliberating and voting on national election nomination fees and petition-filing fees?
From the start it is a well calculated move in that the government will use its numerical strength to pass the legislation and make it a law before the current parliament goes into the final recess before election time.
I believe the legislative amendment will be unconstitutional because it will impede on the ordinary citizens rights to run for this public offices.
