Communities benefit from five-year water plan

PEOPLE from three communities in East Sepik will now have access to clean water after the installation of a five-year water aid plan project there, an engineer says.
East Sepik water aid infrastructure engineer Nagasi Namui said the project would see the installation of a rain catchment system in communities of Wom, Ibab, Wandami and Wobu by Shepherd Welding Service.
He said 12 rain catchment systems would be installed in Wom and 10 each in the other three communities.
“I represent water aid and we are ready to complete the project within five months,” Namui said.
The project was inclusive of persons with and without disabilities and was funded by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade through the Water for Women at a cost of K667,481.87, he said.
The project was implemented to provide capacity-building of water service and sanitation for the local people as many of the communities had no access to clean water.
“The installation will start in Wewak district,”he said.
“We are happy to carry out this same inclusive project at all the districts.”
